Innovative gardens and spaces for children.

Twenty years of innovation

Nancy Striniste, the founder of EarlySpace, is a landscape designer and former teacher, who specializes in creating earth-friendly, people-friendly spaces. She began her career as an early childhood teacher. Her creativity and innovations in her own classrooms led to presentations for other teachers, which led to her first design projects. She has been creating spaces for children and teaching teachers about the physical environment ever since.

In 2005 she expanded her design consulting practice to include residential clients in addition to the children’s settings she has focused on for more than two decades. Her portfolio includes a number of rain gardens, wildlife habitats, edible gardens, water features, and outdoor rooms as well as cob and straw bale structures. Her work has been featured in the Washington Post, Northern Virginia Magazine and Virginia Gardener Magazine, as well as at the American Horticultural Society's Children's Garden Symposium.

Ms. Striniste received her Master’s Degree in Landscape Design from George Washington University and BS in Education from Wheelock College. She has studied design and children’s spaces at the College of Design at North Carolina State University, Tufts University and Harvard Graduate School of Design. In the 90’s she was a founding resident of Arcadia, a sustainably designed, child-friendly cohousing community in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She now lives under a green roof in Arlington, Virginia with her family and many pets.
